The Google Club
had initiated a six day Cloud Computing certification course on the 29th of September at 3.30 to 4.30 in classroom B, second floor of the campus building.
This introductory session was a huge success as many students came for the
session. The Deputy Director, Dr. Akshay Malhotra addressed the gathering,
emphasizing on the new definition the Google team has given to the concept of
peer-to-peer learning at SIT, where students are teaching students in a
semi-formal setup. He also encouraged the team to keep coming up with more
innovative ideas on the lines of peer-to-peer learning.
The session was conducted by Ksheetij Saini,
the Google Student Ambassador, SIT. He touched briefly on the various topics of
what exactly cloud computing is.
During the session, the definition of Cloud Computing as given by NIST
(National Institute of Standards and Technology) was discussed in length.
The cloud model, as discussed in the session has five essential characteristics , three service models and four deployment models.
The cloud model, as discussed in the session has five essential characteristics , three service models and four deployment models.
Essential Characteristics:
●
On-Demand self service
●
Broad Network Access
●
Resource Pooling
●
Rapid Elasticity
●
Measured Service
Service Models:
●
Software as a Service (SaaS)
●
Platform as a Service (PaaS)
●
Infrastructure as a Service
(SaaS)
The deployment models weren't discussed in
much detail due to the time constraints. Towards the end, the comparison was drawn between
Conventional Computing and Cloud computing on the lines of :
➢
Provisioning
➢
Hardware
➢
Storage Capacity and payment
for the same
➢
Capital and Operational
Expenses
➢
Management of Systems
○
System Administrators in the
case of Conventional Computing
○
API’s in the case of cloud
Computing
